What can we learn from a trio of modern gentleman who have risen above the ranks thanks to their stylish wardrobes?

David Beckham is an above average footballer who has carved out a place for himself in the premiere league of celebrity circles. Despite his undeniable sporting prowess, does his performance on the pitch mark him out as one of the all-time greats among the ranks of Ronaldo, Maradona and Pele?

Gary Barlow is an above average singer with a string of hits behind him, but do his renditions of Patience, A Million Love Songs and Relight My Fire earn him a place in the pantheon of pop’s greats alongside Prince,  Michael Jackson or Jim Morrison?

Benedict Cumberbatch is an above average actor who has moved on from captivating British audiences on a Sunday evening in the BBC drama, Sherlock, to starring in blockbuster franchises including Star Trek and the Marvel universe. But does his turn as Doctor Strange measure up to the roles of Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro or Marlon Brando?

What do all three have in common?

Well, they’re all talented in their field – although you could argue not in the top 1% based on performance alone. But that hasn’t stopped all three of these British icons enjoying world renown and A-grade celebrity status.

They also conduct themselves in a manner befitting the modern gentleman at all times; courteous, considerate and consummately professional. Whether attending royal events, judging Saturday evening talent shows or walking the red carpet, this trio of talent are exemplary ambassadors for the nation.

Over the years, we’ve noticed that these three gents share an appreciation for understated excellence in the way they dress. These modern professionals are neither dress-down dummies nor power-dressing yuppies, but rather they embody the casually confident air of the man who knows who he is. We think this sartorial savvy goes some way to explaining how they outperform even their own expectations.

Your style should match your ambition

Dress for the job you want. Clothes maketh the man. Snappy phrases for snappy dressers through the ages and all aphorisms that Beckham, Barlow and Cumberbatch et al clearly set store by.

Before they became the megastars we know today, all three carefully cultivated a look that said they’d already ‘made it’. From David’s knitwear, Barlow’s Blazers and Benedict’s denim and shirt combo,  each one dressed how they wanted the world to see them. They didn’t dress to impress – they dressed for success.

That philosophy lies at the heart of the Benedict Raven Timeless collection. It was created for those who care about – and want to show – style, sophistication and simplicity. Everyday elegance without trying too hard to make an impression.

Giving the modern man a style that would be a part of your journey through the lifestyle that you aspire to lead – and perhaps helping you outperform even your own expectations just like our trio of famous modern gentlemen.
